2-2-14 Crank Pulley Pre-fail Video
I suspected the crank pulley may be a problem, but wasn't 100% sure so made a video to share with others on 3si.org to see what they thought. After a few comments and a phone call, the news wasn't good. The crank pulley (aka harmonic balancer) was starting to go. When the crank pulley separates it can cause major damage. Stories of the crank pulley outer section flying off and hitting random parts under the hood or the car accessory belts breaking and getting wedged into the timing belt area are not uncommon. How close was it to being completely shot? Unsure, I put on the new power steering belt, and new alternator belt, and started the car to see if it was really the crank pulley making noise, or the power steering belt (which was also at about the end of it's goodness).
